There are some very nicely restored commercial buildings in Opotiki. Most of them were built in the late 1800's and early 1900's, so that there is a conformity and harmony in architectural style throughout the business district. Nearly all the main buildings fall into the 'Art Nouveau' period and are very typical of that style, as it was expressed in New Zealand.

The King Street Bar on the opposite corner of King and Church Streets. Built of N.Z. native timbers, it is a fine example of timber structures of the period.

The Rest Rooms Tucked in beside an example of "Post Office Modern" is this charming little "Art Deco" rest room. Also note the patterned cobblestones, part of the "Town Upgrade" that celebrated the new millennium.

The De Luxe Theatre Dated 1926, the theatre has much more the style of the next 'Art Deco' period - perhaps an inspired forerunner?

The Opotiki Hotel Wearing the "Tui" brand livery, the Opotiki Hotel is a very gay building. Note the 'SHIP' streetlamp. These lamps were installed during the town upgrade, and signify the former dependence of the town on shipping for all transport and communication.
